The historical setting of Othello is a major influence to the main plot. The renaissance period was a time of great social and cultural altercations; this briefly meant that individual perspectives were gradually changing. Shakespeare uses this historical context and manipulates it in order to add emphasis on certain central values. A major central value that has been emphasised in Othello is the concept of ‘Oneness’; this developed the idea of many different groups within society. This historical brought the introduction of creativity and innovation on a wider scale; it evoked individuals to reach outside of their comfort zone and to surpass social norms. The war between the Ottomans and the Venetians is another creditable historical backdrop portrayed in Othello.
